Welcome to our site where we hope to share the vibrancy of silk painting with you in a way that
captures the beauty of the natural world that is our source of inspiration. We, Marg Janick-Grayston,
Rylan Grayston and Janicka Grayston are a mother/son/daughter team from
Saskatchewan (Canada) who not only love creating unique hand-painted items,
but also have a strong appreciation for organizations that promote the arts in community. It is for this
reason that we chose to make our site one that invites all artists to share their work and information
about their exploration of techniques.

Each artistic piece that you view on our personal website is a unique, individually hand-painted silk wall hanging.
As we create each piece, the moment we place our paintbrush upon the watered-down silk fabric, we are astounded by the vibrant beauty as the
paint begins to dance like Northern Lights across the silk. Many of our pieces are further enhanced with shimmering thread designs applied with a free-motion
quilting technique, and then framed with a colored silk border to complete our quilted wall hangings. Each of the quilted pieces require
many hours of work and are designed with a cloth sleeve on the back allowing you to hang it with a small curtain rod that
can either be hidden behind the wall hanging or extended for visibility. The pieces that have not been quilted have
all been hand-painted on a single layer of silk with the top edge turned under to create a sleeve which also
allows you to hang it with a rod. We hope that you enjoy the visual presentation of our work and if
you choose to purchase one of our pieces that you get years of enjoyment from the vibrancy that it will add to your home.

Silkscape ?

What's Behind Our Business Name?

We chose Silkscape as our business name for 3 reasons:

"Silk" because that's our "canvas" & silk paint is our medium

"Scape" because in botany scapes are flowering stems and we love painting plants in bloom.

"Silkscape" because it is a take on landscapes which we also love to paint.
